Eliciting good classroom behaviour
Wednesday 8 October – 15:30 – 17:00
Facilitator: Claire Callow, Teacher Trainer and Consultant

Our learners do not always know how to behave in a classroom environment or what is expected of them. In this session, participants will explore some strategies for creating learning environments which continually reinforce the good expectations and behaviour we require in order for teaching and learning to take place. In this sense, the session is about planning for and eliciting good classroom behaviour (rather than resolving conflict, should it occur.)

The session will explore:

  • What is proactive behaviour management?
  • The adolescent brain and classroom behaviour
  • Using language to elicit good behaviour
  • Managing the classroom space
  • Planning for praise.

Conflict resolution in the classroom
Wednesday 15 October – 15:30 – 17:00
Facilitator: Claire Callow, Teacher Trainer and Consultant

In this session, participants will explore the principles of conflict resolution within the context of the changes and developments which occur within the adolescent brain. In doing so, they will be able to strategise about the best ways to resolve conflict in post-16 classrooms. The session will include activities to help practitioners discuss, collaborate and begin applying some of the conflict resolution techniques discussed.

This session will explore:

  • The changes and developments which take place in the adolescent brain
  • The principles of conflict resolution techniques
  • Using conflict resolution techniques with post-16 learners.

Supporting students with anxiety
Wednesday 22 October – 15:30 – 17:00
Facilitator: Laura Kerbey, Trainer and Author

In this session Laura will help delegates identify triggers for learners in the college environment. Laura will also discuss the impact that anxiety can have on learners and identify effective support strategies to help minimise anxiety and build confidence in learners. We will also look at strategies to support students when experiencing meltdown and shutdown.

Supporting students with ADHD
Wednesday 5 November – 15:30 – 17:00
Facilitator: Laura Kerbey, Trainer and Author

In this session, Laura will identify the most common characteristics of ADHD and how this can impact on learning. Laura will also discuss other less obvious and less well known symptoms of ADHD. The session will then cover practical strategies for supporting learners with ADHD in the learning environment.
