Harlow College has transformed learning through digital technologies, seizing the opportunities for innovation n the curriculum and new models of delivery.
Harlow College has invested significantly in digital infrastructure, including Wi-Fi to run 3000 devices, a mobile device management system, iPads for all full-time learners and adapting learning spaces. We changed our approach to teaching, learning and assessment, resulting in recognition as the first UK college to achieve Apple Distinguished School Status.
Our use of digital technology creates personalised curricula, creating independent learners and thinkers, instilling and developing digital competence in-line with industry needs. It allows rapid submission and review of assignments and rapid personalised feedback from tutors. The iPads impact positively on how students present themselves to both employers and universities.
We have already adopted a sustainable plan of ‘iPads for all, benefiting 2,200 students and implemented a strong programme of continuing professional development for staff with many achieving their Apple Teacher status. A team of Digital Ambassadors has been recruited from the college’s students and staff.
The Jisc Student Digital Experience Tracker shows Harlow College has a rating 9% higher than the national benchmark for quality of digital teaching and learning.
