Edge Award for excellence in the practical delivery of technical and professional learning - New College Durham Case Study

The College, Business Durham and the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs have worked in collaboration to help support the development of the LEP Business Strategy.

We developed a new level 5 module titled, Innovation, Idea Generation and Enterprise which was validated and integrated into all current and new Foundation Degrees. Delivery is supported by Business Durham through supplying specialist speakers from industry and visits to innovative business organisations, including the international NetPark Science Centre.

It has enhanced the student experience and raised awareness of the importance of enterprise, entrepreneurship and innovation. It has led to the development of Higher Level Skills in all of our graduates and developed a highly responsive curriculum that meets local and regional skills requirements.

The aim is to introduce the module to all new programmes over the next two years. It will be delivered in course context to all HE students. This will result in over 500 students developing a higher knowledge and skill set in innovation as part of their studies.

The module is fully integrated into the curriculum. It drives forward the skills agenda through excellence in teaching and learning and outstanding employer engagement.
