Edge Award for excellence in the practical delivery of technical and professional learning - Forth Valley College Case Study

The Forth Valley College Connect initiative is an innovative creative learning approach, which replicates the media industry in an educational setting, to provide real work learning experiences for students.

Connect is a multimedia platform which mirrors real, current industry practice in video production, radio, podcasting, social media and online content production.  It is run by students, who make their own decisions about the development and format of content, which is then broadcast online to students, staff and the local community.

Students gain industry specific and transferrable knowledge, skills and experience, whilst in the safety of an education setting, and build up significant portfolio content along the way. Working to industry standards and deadlines prepares students exceptionally well for the pressures of the real media workplace.

Connect is already incredibly valuable for students across the whole college, as it is a shared platform through which students from diverse subject areas can showcase their own work. It successfully supports the development of a strong sense of college community, consisting of students, staff and our wider communities.

The Connect approach is a highly relevant and creative model for 21st century skills learning, shaped by students for students and promoting ownership and deep engagement.
