Edge Award for excellence in the practical delivery of technical and professional learning - Dundee and Angus College Case Study

The Dundee and Angus Future Skills College uses a strong partnership between the college, schools and employers to provide guaranteed progression into apprenticeships for young people.

Future Skills College begins and ends with the employers; without guaranteed future jobs, we don’t offer a place. This partnership offers career pathways in plumbing, electrical, early years education and childcare. All built around attending 2 days at school, 2 days at college and 1 day in work placement.

Students take up a place knowing that – if successful - they have a guaranteed job or apprenticeship place at the end of it. Not only are they matched with a suitable employer, they study for their school and vocational qualifications whilst also adapting to the rigours of work.

As more employers come on board from different industry areas, the plan is to expand the concept further, bringing in as many curriculum areas as possible.

This close collaboration between education and employers means Dundee and Angus College has a much stronger ‘finger on the pulse’ with regards student/employer needs.
