Edge Award for excellence in the practical delivery of technical and professional learning - Bath College Case Study

In August 2017, Bath College launched an ambitious new partnership with The Theatre Royal Bath. Bath Theatre Academy offers learners on the full-time Level 3 UAL Performing and Production Arts course, a unique curriculum that combines a practical theatre programme with real-life industry experience.

Current industry practitioners are engaged to feed directly into the curriculum and formative/summative assessment, be this through casting and directing learners in the development of performance work, supporting learners in the dramaturgical development of new writing, technical design and/or directing skills.

Learners have daily access to industry standard resources, as well as current theatre practitioners and work alongside them to develop impressive portfolios of work as recognised by their awarding body. This, in turn has enabled learners to develop and significantly enhance their professional networks and exposure to live theatre and industry.

The partnership serves as a working example of how industry can feed into curriculum to the benefit of learner’s vocational development. Learners across our Creative Arts and Enterprise provision will benefit from further live project and industry engagement activities as part of this collaboration.

This partnership has significantly enhanced the student experience and provides them with the opportunity to develop skills beyond that expected at their level of study.
