Student voice in action

A case study by South Thames College.

South Thames College applied to engage with phase two of the Youth Social Action Ambassador programme for the following reasons:

• Great opportunity to engage students in social action activity that they shape and lead.

• Importance on social action for students and the benefits of direct impact and the soft skills development.

• Opportunity to showcase the work of the students and share this with other providers.

Recruitment of students began within the initial weeks of the September term. The colleges Enrichment Officer led on the recruitment of students and operationally managed the project during the first term. Seven students were overall engaged, with a couple of the seven added a few weeks after the initial group members started. The initial staff member left the college as the project was truly starting in January, which led to some challenges that were able to be managed.
