Empowering young women – building safer communities

A case study by Carshalton College.

The Enrichment Team at Carshalton College recognised a recurring concern among female students regarding their personal safety in public spaces. These concerns were often shared during informal conversations, enrichment drop-ins, and through feedback from student voice activities. The college, situated in an urban borough with rising reports of gender-based harassment, acknowledged the need to actively respond. With a commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing, a social action project was developed to address safety, empower young women, and raise awareness within the wider community.
