British Council international award - South West College Case Study

South West College (SWC) international initiative “SWC Global” entails 40 international partnerships, to promote internationally relevant curriculum and deliver transformative international experiences for students and staff.

Key innovations include advancement of several cross-sectoral international partnerships to support international student mobility, staff training, R&D and exchange of best practice. Innovative communication mechanisms including a dedicated Twitter platform @globalswc, an award winning blog #WOW and #TEDontour campaign have been embedded in SWC to promote and share international experiences.

SWC have a portfolio of 20 international projects worth €6 million funded through Erasmus+, INTERREG and British Council. 300 students have experienced a transnational work placement over the last 3 years with a 95% satisfaction rate. 3 students who trained in Iceland received prestigious awards at the Hotels Federation Competition.

Collaborating with partners across 25 countries, enables staff to import high level knowledge from outside the UK and in areas such as 3D printing, Electric Vehicles and Augmented Reality. This has enhanced SWC’s capability to deliver exemplary and innovative teaching and learning, inspiring novel curriculum development to support all students.

SWC international activity is sector leading with leadership across EU funded Research & Innovation projects and Erasmus+, positioning the college as one of the UK’s leading providers.
