British Council international award - Petroc Case Study

Petroc Go is an Erasmus+ funded project, which in 2017-18 sent over 160 learners to Europe to carry out work experience or training relevant to their studies. From automotive students working in garages in Barcelona to childcare students learning about Forest Schooling in Sweden, they gain real world experiences, which for many would otherwise be unattainable.

As one of the top 5 largest FE-based providers of Erasmus+ vocational activity in England, Petroc Go is innovative in terms of scale and target group, particularly in a rural area where poor transport and limited access to higher education and employment can foster low aspirations.

According to latest available QAR data, Petroc Go participants have a significantly higher achievement rate compared to the student body as a whole. As well as improved technical knowledge, problem-solving and teamwork skills, participants return to the UK with greater confidence in their own abilities.

By incorporating European mobility into the curriculum, students across the college benefit from the experiences of their peers as well as staff, who return with broader knowledge of their vocational area and encourage other subject areas to take part. Reciprocal visits from our European partners also introduce new skills and experiences to the college and local employers.
