A large staff international research innovation, on the two hot topics of Employer Engagement and fundamental British Values, the Erasmus+ “The Art of Learning in Partnership” has been a ground-breaking project. Running over 2 years with 30 staff mobilities, colleagues undertook placements in France, Germany and Malta to pursue the two lines of enquiry.
Research into cultural differences was brought back to UK classrooms to fully inform British Values sessions and the introduction of new European lecturers and exchange students into those classes for joint projects has further extended this.
For employer engagement, new systems and approaches have been implemented resulting in a 53% increase in employer engagement within 1 year and 100% of students achieving work placements in the UK. A package of teaching and training films has been produced, readily accessible to UK colleges via a bespoke website.
Work has informed new qualification development and has featured on the BBC News. Whilst improving study programmes, the project is now extended to provide learners with exchange placements within the companies the staff originally visited on a growing annual programme, alongside more staff “super CPD” research experiences, in a college that is purposefully embracing innovation.
