Here you can find the latest updates on AoC Sport and AoC's extensive events programme.
AoC Sport update
We have taken the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming National Championships in order to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of all involved. The event, due to take place 24-26 April, would have included more than 2,000 college students, staff and volunteers from across the country.
Dean Hardman, AoC Director of Sport and Student Experience said:
"We are extremely disappointed to cancel the National Championships but the Public Health guidelines and the personal safety of all participants and staff is paramount. This decision has not been taken lightly and we would like to reassure colleges that we have done everything we can to lessen the impact - including incurring the costs for the cancellation so that colleges have one less thing to worry about.”
We can confirm that colleges will not be invoiced by the University of Nottingham for the Championships.
In addition, following guidance from national governing bodies and the withdrawal of a number of colleges from all sporting activities, we are also suspending all AoC Sport competitions until after Easter when we will assess the situation again.
This will impact all leagues, cups and local development opportunities. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Further updates will be communicated on the website and via email. (Updated 16 Mar)
AoC events update
Decisions regarding AoC meetings, Policy Groups and events will be communicated in due course.
The College Collaboration Fund briefings (updated 18 March)
The meetings scheduled for Wednesday 18 and Wednesday 25 March have both been cancelled at DfE’s request whilst DfE targets efforts at providing the response to colleges’ immediate needs and to ensures all colleges are free to concentrate on the welfare of their own institutions, staff and students.
DfE will provide an external update on the future of CCF in the next couple of days once the picture is clearer.
The AoC Academic and Sixth Form Policy group (updated 18 March)
This has been postponed at the chair’s request and Eddie Playfair will share a briefing on 16-18 issues by email.
Beacon Awards - scheduled for Tuesday 21 April (updated 17 Mar)
We have decided therefore to postpone the Beacon Awards winners’ lunch and reception scheduled for 21 April.
We will work with our Trustees and Beacon Awards Sponsors to consider options to announce Beacon Award Winners and celebrate the awards later in the year. We will update you again in due course.
We are also looking at the awards timeline for 20/21 and what we may need to change and options to simplify some aspects of the process for 20/21 recognising that colleges will need time to adapt and adjust following COVID 19.
I appreciate this decision to postpone will be disappointing for you and your staff and thank you for your support and understanding.
Governors' Summit - scheduled for Tuesday 31 March (updated 17 Mar)
This event has been postponed and will now take place on 8 October.
