There are two national sport conferences per year available to West Midlands colleges:

The Sport in the Curriculum Conference takes place in January. It is the only national event dedicated to driving excellence in teaching and learning and supporting curriculum managers in sport and active leisure departments. The conference attracts over 150 delegates and is aimed at Senior Managers, Faculty Heads, Curriculum Area Managers, Heads of Sport and Lecturers.

The College Sport Conference takes place in the summer term and attracts over 250 delegates. The conference is aimed at sport development officers, college sport makers and programme managers. The conference is a great opportunity to gain national sports development policy updates from the key agencies, be the first to hear about new initiatives and opportunities for the sector and discover innovative ways to develop sport in your college and share ideas for best practice with colleagues from across the UK.

AoC Sport, in partnership with AoC West Midlands, facilitates a series of regional networks for heads of sport curriculum and sport delivery staff. Networks take place three times per year at colleges across the region. They provide an opportunity for discussion of national and regional policy and sharing best practice.

Leagues and festivals

AoC Sport provide leagues and cups in a variety of sports including basketball, netball and rugby. In 2015/16 over 2600 students participated in the regional leagues.

Local development opportunities are developed with National Governing Bodies and County Sport Partnerships to provide more recreational sport and physical activity opportunities for students, these include sports such as handball and football.

Regional Tournaments-National Championships

West Midlands colleges are invited to take place in regional tournaments in 14 sports throughout the autumn term. The tournaments engage around 1500 students in high quality competition. The winners of the tournaments qualify to compete at the AoC Sport National Championships in the spring, which is one of the largest annual sporting events in England, involving over 1,800 college students and 200 staff.

The West Midlands always perform well at the National Championships, securing a top three position for many years, and winning the overall Championships in 2014.
