The Queen has announced today (21 July) that John Hayes MP has been appointed as Minister of State at the Department for Education in addition to his current ministerial post at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. His responsibilities at the DfE will be for 16-18 apprenticeships and careers advice. This dual role across both departments is something AoC has been pressing for since the General Election.
Martin Doel, Chief Executive of the Association of Colleges, said: “We are very pleased about this appointment. When in Opposition John Hayes visited many Colleges and made a great many contacts within the sector and deepened his understanding of apprenticeships, vocational education and the general need for advice and careers guidance.
“We therefore believe this appointment, spanning the two departments, will be a very positive move towards ensuring that they work together most effectively to the benefit of young people.”
