1    AoC Beacon Awards - Speed Networking Event
Date: Wednesday 6 May 2009, Copthorne Tara Hotel, London

The AoC Charitable Trust is delighted to offer an exciting new event aimed at Vice Principals and Senior Curriculum Managers who will be given the opportunity to have one-to-one sessions with experienced AoC Beacon Assessors and sponsors to get advice and guidance on how to enhance applications this year, as well as an insight into how to create an environment which stimulates success from Principals of multi-Beacon Award-winning Colleges.

The one-day event will be divided into two sections and a draft copy of the programme can be found here:

There are now only 19 places available. These will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and on offer at the competitive daily rate of £175 per person.

Please use the booking form to secure your place and to select which assessors, sponsors and Principals you would like to meet for a one-to-one session.

Further details

In the morning there will be a plenary session with input from:

  • Dame Patricia Morgan-Webb – Chair of the AoC Beacon Awards
  • Pat Hood – research consultant and author of 'Celebrating Colleges' research into the capabilities of the winning and highly commended Colleges
  • Three Principals of multi-Beacon Award-winning Colleges who will draw upon the main outcomes of the research and explore in more detail the futures map for the sector.

This first session will be based on the format for the breakout session held as part of the Policy Network sessions at the AoC Annual Conference - which was very well received, with 100% of respondents to the delegate survey rating the relevance of the topic as 'very good' and 92.3% wishing to hear from the speakers again.

After lunch, there will be two ‘speed networking’ sessions, where delegates can take the opportunity to have one-to-one conversations of 10 minutes duration each with the guest speakers, Beacon Assessors and sponsor assessors.  Each session will last an hour with a break in the middle, providing each delegate with the opportunity with a maximum of 12 one-to-one sessions, but more realistically an average of nine.

The event will be rounded off with one representative from each group (assessor, sponsor, guest Principal) summarising their conversations and questions they’ve responded to and offering one final opportunity for a Q&A session.

A total of 31 AoC Beacon Assessors, sponsors, steering group representatives and guest Principals have agreed to participate in the event and meet with College delegates for one-to-one sessions as well as being available throughout the lunch and afternoon breaks for more informal discussions.  A list of the assessors, sponsors and Principals is posted below, each with brief biographies so you can make informed decisions about whom you wish to meet with.

With the prospectus already available in Colleges and on the AoC website, this event will give you a timely and excellent opportunity to get advice and guidance on putting together submissions for the Awards this year as well as gaining an invaluable insight into how College leaders have created a culture of innovation and self-improvement.

There are only 38 places available which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and on offer at the competitive daily rate of £175.00 per person.

Please use the booking form to secure your place and to select which assessors, sponsors and Principals you would like to meet for a one-to-one session.  Again, your one-to-one sessions will be allocated on a first come, first served basis although we shall try to ensure that you speak with at least 5 of your preferred choices.
