There are 35 Further Education (FE) Colleges in Yorkshire and the Humber, comprising general FE (22), sixth form (seven) and specialist (six).

Courses range from basic skills, floristry and equine science to aerospace engineering, applied maths, fashion and textiles.

FE is the first-choice study option for more than 80,000 16 to 19-year-olds in Yorkshire and the Humber. In addition more than 190,000 adults study at colleges each year.

A total of 25 of the region’s colleges provide higher education and degree courses for about 18,000 students. Colleges also work with schools on creating new provision for 14 to 16-year-olds.

Colleges play a central role in addressing the skill needs of local businesses and employers while also working closely with local authorities and social partners.

In addition they are an economic force in their own right – the region's colleges have a collective annual turnover of £740 million and directly employ more than 30,000 people.

In the past few years colleges have invested heavily in premises and equipment with more than £540 million spent on high-quality facilities involving 85 projects across Yorkshire and the Humber.
