Gold Awards for further education alumni


The winners of the 2008 AoC Gold Awards for Further Education Alumni were presented with their awards at an event held at the House of Commons on Thursday 12 June 2008.

This year, the winners are:

  • Justine Whitaker, Nursing Standard Nurse of the Year 2007, Craven College
  • Baroness Jane Campbell, Commissioner and Disability Chair at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Hereward College
  • Andrew Iveson, Managing Director of SIAS Building Services, Leeds College of Building
  • Gok Wan, Style Guru and presenter of Channel 4's "How to Look Good Naked", Leicester College
  • Professor Sir Alec Jeffries, Royal Society Wolfson Research Professor at University of Leicester, Department of Genetics, Luton Sixth Form College
  • Richard McCourt, TV/Radio Presenter, The Sheffield College

AoC Gold Award winners, who are nominated by further education colleges, are people who have attended that college and who have since gone on to achieve excellence in his or her chosen field.

Recipients of the AoC Gold Awards will have:

 

  • Attended college for a significant period (e.g. for a year or until the completion of a qualification).
  • Acknowledged that they gained benefit from their time at college (e.g. by gaining the confidence and competence to pursue an occupation or enter preparation for the field in which they have excelled).
  • Received public recognition and acclaim, or made a major contribution in their field.
