Association of Colleges

Strategic review

East Riding College150 The Association of Colleges Board commissioned a Strategic Review of AoC in 2006 to ensure that it is best fitted for the future as champion of colleges and their learners - meeting the challenges that the sector faces over the next decade and beyond while building on significant achievements; to be regarded by members and external stakeholders as the influencing voice of the sector.

The Strategic Review report produced by Helen Gilchrist and George Bright was published in June 2007 following a broad process of consultation and discussion with members and key stakeholders - which included regional and sub-regional meetings with Principals and Chairs, conferences with college consortia groups, a national questionnaire, the establishment of a reference group and a wide range of telephone conferences and email exchanges. In total the review team made contact with approximately two-thirds of the sector’s colleges.

The Strategic Review helped to inform AoC Board and, following further comprehensive consultation, the Board published proposals to members setting out how AoC can most successfully support the future interests of the college sector.

The Key Proposals are set out in the document 'Building For the Future' and were presented to membership at the AoC AGM on 20 November 2007 in Birmingham, where members approved the proposals which require constitutional change to AoC.   Building for the Future
