Colleges from across country join VQ Day celebrations

Colleges from across the UK are joining forces to celebrate the success of vocational students.
Over one hundred colleges will be marking the event locally or at London's Royal Opera House today (23 July), where popstar Alesha Dixon will be hosting a stellar celebration of vocational qualifications.
VQ Day has already featured in national and local media across the UK - including the Sun and Independent newspaper, Bliss and Prima magazine, That's Life, MSN, Yahoo and many more. Reaseheath College's celebrations featured on BBC Breakfast TV this morning (23 July).
AoC will be providing a full report to members on the success of the celebrations later in the summer.

- 3.25 million vocational qualifications awarded in the last year
- 8.3 per cent increase on the previous year
- 117 per cent increase on five years ago
- Top 5 vocational subjects to take were healthcare, retail, business, construction and engineering
- Average of 2.5 per cent increase in completion rates per year over five years – now at 78 per cent

- 60 MPs signed Early Day Motion supporting VQ Day
- 362 institutions have downloaded the PR Toolkit
- 114 institutions have ordered collateral (e.g. posters, leaflets)
- 48 colleges/learning providers have events planned to date, including awards ceremonies, photocalls, drinks events with local employers and learners
- 707 people have signed roll-call on website
- 45 colleges have agreed to add links to VQ Day to their home pages
