Finance Director

Salary c£85,000 + Benefits + Relocation Expenses

Bradford College is looking to appoint an accomplished, experienced and commercially driven Finance Director to help capitalise on our continued success.  Based in Bradford and established for over 175 years, the college is the fourth largest in the country with a turnover in excess of £60M and is also the largest provider of higher education outside the university sector in England. You will be expected to make a significant contribution to the ongoing growth, income generation, and strategic development of the college, and will be responsible for the day to day management of a wide range of activities.

As a senior postholder and part of the Executive Team, you will be jointly responsible for all corporate decisions that affect the college. You will drive commercial development, controlling financial management and mitigating key business risks through leadership and management of all aspects of Finance.  You will develop and implement strategic approaches to the management of the college’s finances, identifying how the budgets can be utilised and managed most effectively, and ensuring that all strategic planning decisions are informed by relevant financial perspectives.  You will also monitor the work of the Financial Controller and the Finance team, identifying staff training and professional development needs, whilst ensuring an up to date awareness of financial legislation is consistent throughout.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished and commercially minded individual with a successful record of financial budgeting, management and control at a senior level.  You will hold a relevant accountancy qualification, with proven experience leading teams within a Further Education and/or Higher Education environment. You must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of current FE and HE legislation as well as decent knowledge of FE strategic planning, and will combine that with an in depth understanding of financial regulations, accounting practices and risk management.

Previous experience planning and delivering budgets and managing projects and people is essential, as is the ability to communicate with, lead, motivate and encourage individuals.  You must be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, analytical accuracy, plus incisive strategic thinking. This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially and financially aware individual to make an impact within a dynamic organisation

The role will be based at the College’s main site in the centre of Bradford and you will be expected to participate fully in evening and sometimes weekend activity.  The successful candidate will therefore be expected to live within 25 miles/1 hour commute within 12 months of appointment.
