Cornwall College is one of the largest providers of foundation degrees in the country, offering over fifty courses. New courses for 2007 include live arts, emergency management, yacht science, integrated environmental management, cruise ship operations, and conservation and countryside management.
In 2006 Cornwall College saw an increase of around 50% in UCAS applications to its foundation degrees. The student of year in 2006 was Michelle Spillane-Smith who graduated with distinction from the Foundation Degree in Zoological Conservation Management. Michelle juggled a busy family life with her studies, while her husband was overseas serving in Iraq, but still contributed a significant amount to the College. She helped to organise the college ball, as well as a charity auction to raise money for the British Divers’ Marine life Rescue. She is now working as Regional Coordinator for the Midlands division of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue.
Courses at the college are validated by the University of Plymouth. The College also works in partnership with the Combined Universities in Cornwall initiative – this Objective One-funded project has brought millions of pounds of investment to the county, bringing local students new courses, buildings, facilities and higher education opportunities
