AoC Student of the Year Award 2010

Event Title

Publication date: 05 October 2010

Following the success of last year’s award, we are launching the AoC Student of the Year Award 2010. Competition prizes are worth a total of £2,000.

The winner and two runners-up will be invited to collect their prizes at the AoC Annual Conference at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on 17 November 2010.

In addition, entries to the Awards will be used for Colleges Week and AoC Annual Conference media promotion.

The AoC Student of the Year Award aims to highlight outstanding student achievement – often in adversity – and celebrate the amazing success stories which are so common in the sector. The judging panel will include the following in their assessment of students:

  • Personal achievement
  • Perseverance, or achievement ‘against the odds’
  • Contribution to the College or wider community
  • Inspirational nature of the story

The 2009 winners of the award included:

  • A former Marine from Nottingham who, having suffered near fatal injuries while serving in Afghanistan, is now a gym instructor
  • A Tyneside woman made homeless as a teenager, who is supporting her younger brother while studying to become a teacher
  • A mature student from Grantham who escaped from Zimbabwe in 2003 and is retraining to become a nurse

To read detailed success stories of last year’s winners, please see our news release.

To enter, please complete the AoC Student of the Year 2010 entry form and return to Tahmina Begum, AoC Communications and Public Affairs Administrator, by 15 October 2010.
