How to use the discussion forums

Discussion forum instructions

Members of the AoC can start discussion threads within the main conferences of the forums. They can also post responses to threads of discussion.

Set up
To be able to use the forums members must first select a nickname and if they wish give themselves an Avatar in their profile page.

Nicknames
These are set within members' 'My profile' area found at the top of the page. This allows members to post with anonymity within the forums. Nicknames should and can be anything but nothing crass or rude.

Gravatar
The Avatar is managed for you by a web-based service called ‘Gravatar’. Please follow their instructions on setting up this option.

The site is specifically for members only and will also contain private forums for committees, working parties and specific groups within colleges.

Use of forum discussion
The outcomes from forum discussions may be used by the AoC for further developmental work for the membership or profession.

Login controls
Login – this will take you to your ‘My Profile’ page where you can log in and then link back to the forums.

To post
You need to set have set your nickname in your profile page. Until you set this you will not be able to post in the fora.

Starting a discussion
You can start either a thread or respond to a current discussion in the same format. Within the message body you have some controls over appearance of text and formatting as you have with standard word processing packages.

On submitting
A new discussion thread or response you submit will be live on the site.
