The AoC Public Affairs office liaises with MPs and Peers of all political Parties, special advisers and officials to ensure the voice of the FE is heard within Westminster and Whitehall.
The specific tasks we undertake, in conjunction with college Principals are:
- Maintaining contact with key MPs including Ministers, Opposition spokespeople, Parliamentary Private Secretaries and Select Committee members
- Lobbying on legislation including suggesting amendments
- Drafting both written and oral Parliamentary Questions
- Enabling college Principals to provide oral evidence before Parliamentary select committees
- Submitting written evidence to select committees
- Producing Briefings for MPs to inform Parliamentary debates in both Houses
- Managing the All Party Parliamentary Group for FE & Lifelong Learning
- Providing opportunities for college principals to speak to directly to MPs
- Advising AoC members on managing their relationships with local MPs
